Everybody knows about solar panels and you get money from the electricity companies, so why does only about 20% of house holders know about RHI.
The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is a Government scheme set up to encourage uptake of renewable heat technologies amongst householders, communities and businesses through financial incentives. It is the first of its kind in the world and the Government expects the RHI to contribute towards the 2020 ambition of 12% of heating coming from renewable sources.
It’s not all about getting money from the government to install Air & Ground source heat pumps, Solar Thermal and Biomass boilers, but that does make a big difference. The money saving after installing an Air source heat pump will have your cost of running your house by about 50%.
So a typical 4 bed house receives round £1,000 a year from RHI and saves about £1000 to £1200 compared to Gas or oil boilers, £10K investment for a system and your return to investment is under 5 years.
